Collegium w/ Paolo Gaudio
Stop-motion animation is still underrepresented among Italian filmmakers, and we aim to promote its wider dissemination. To this end, we have organized a professional, limited-enrollment workshop led by one of the most prominent figures in Italian stop-motion: comic artist and director Paolo Gaudio. Paolo Gaudio is a director, screenwriter, and animator. For years, he has been experimenting with animation techniques such as stop motion, cut-out animation, and computer graphics. Fantasticherie di un Passeggiatore Solitario (Fantasy of a Solitary Walker) marks his feature film debut, winning 14 international awards. In 2018, he received the Nastro d’Argento for Best Animated Short Film for LOONEY FOODZ! In 2022, he produced and distributed the short film THE BLACK reCAT, which appeared on the lineups of major fantasy film festivals around the world and won 12 international awards. The film was also nominated for the Silver Méliès for Best European Fantasy Short. Since 2014, he has been part of the editorial staff of InGenereCinema.com and is the director of the format Il Giro dell’Horror, a docu-series dedicated to Italian horror, produced by InGenereCinema.com and distributed on home video by Weird Entertainment. In 2024, he directed and wrote the short film DAGON: a stop-motion animated adaptation of the eponymous story by cult author H.P. Lovecraft, produced by Emma Film, which won 35 international awards and the Silver Méliès for Best European Fantasy Short. The film was also nominated for a Nastri d'Argento for Best Animated Short Film. That same year, he joined the organizing committee of FANTAFESTIVAL: Italy's longest-running fantasy film festival. The workshop is open to stop-motion animation students from across Italy, offering an immersive, high-level training experience over three days. The goal is to produce a short film that will be screened during the festival’s closing ceremony. The event will be held behind closed doors in the Cube Room and is reserved for selected students.
L'animazione in stop-motion è ancora poco valorizzata tra i cineasti italiani, perciò ci proponiamo di favorirne la diffusione. A tal fine, abbiamo organizzato un workshop professionalizzante a numero chiuso tenuto da una figura tra i massimi esponenti della stop-motion italiana: il regista Paolo Gaudio. Paolo Gaudio è un regista, sceneggiatore e animatore. Da anni sperimenta tecniche di animazione come la stop motion, la cut-out animation (animazione con ritagli) e la computer grafica. Fantasticherie di un passeggiatore solitario segna il suo debutto nel lungometraggio, aggiudicandosi 14 premi internazionali. Nel 2018 ha ricevuto il Nastro d’Argento per il miglior cortometraggio d’animazione con LOONEY FOODZ!. Nel 2022 ha prodotto e distribuito il corto THE BLACK reCAT, selezionato nei cartelloni dei principali festival di cinema fantasy di tutto il mondo e vincitore di 12 premi internazionali; l'opera ha inoltre ottenuto la nomination al Méliès d'argento per il miglior cortometraggio fantasy europeo. Dal 2014 fa parte della redazione di InGenereCinema.com ed è il regista del format Il Giro dell’Horror, una docu-serie dedicata all’horror italiano prodotta da InGenereCinema.com e distribuita in home video da Weird Entertainment. Nel 2024 ha scritto e diretto il cortometraggio DAGON: un adattamento animato in stop motion dell’omonimo racconto dell’autore di culto H.P. Lovecraft, prodotto da Emma Film, che ha vinto 35 premi internazionali e il Méliès d'argento per il miglior cortometraggio fantasy europeo, oltre a ricevere la nomination ai Nastri d'Argento per il miglior cortometraggio d’animazione. Nello stesso anno è entrato a far parte del comitato organizzativo del FANTAFESTIVAL, il più longevo festival di cinema fantasy in Italia. Il workshop è rivolto agli studenti di cinema d’animazione stop-motion di tutta Italia, perché possano godere di un’esperienza immersiva di alta formazione, della durata di tre giorni. Lo scopo è produrre un breve cortometraggio che verrà proiettato in occasione della cerimonia di chiusura del festival stesso. L’evento è a porte chiuse e si terrà per gli studenti selezionati nella Sala Cube.
